Advising and Supporting

Facilitate or coach group decision-making, goal setting, and process.

During my time at Florida State I had the opportunity to help advise the overall Homecoming council and specifically work with two committees whom were in charge of outreach and programming. I worked them throughout the process to make decision, set goals, and complete the homecoming process.

Provide and arrange for the necessary training and development for staff to enhance their advising and helping skills.

During my time I had the opportunity to advise Hall Council within each of the two halls I oversaw. I facilitated full day retreats for training and worked with them consistently throughout the year to handle the needs and conversations they were having with students when conversation were both good and bad. Also helping them understand the resources and places they themselves as well as other students could go for help

Collaborate with other campus departments and organizations as well as surrounding community agencies and other institutions of higher education to address students’ holistic wellness needs in a comprehensive, collaborative way

While at Florida State I sat on the Academic initiatives committee, through that committee we worked with campus partners to complement and support the academic needs of students. We had an academic focused Seminole scholar’s week, a residential scholars program, tutoring offered within the hall, and more. This helped address a need of students that could extend from the classroom into the living community they foster as home.

Below you will find more information about the Residential Scholars Progra, a specefic program geatred towards students academic success within the hall

Utilize virtual resources and technology to meet the advising and supporting needs of students

At my position at Curry College we use a software for communicating with students for Conduct, called Maxient. This service is completely online and allows us to communicate with students in a way that meets their needs. The current student I have often encountered is more technology driven, and by using a software that meets their need we are able to get more students through the office door to have those supportive conversations with them in regards to the choices they made and will make in the future

Develop and implement successful prevention/outreach programs on campus, including effective mental health publicity/marketing.

Within University Housing RA’s are required to create bulletin boards each month that communicate and educational component to their students. I worked closely with RA’s to implement successful boards each month and help them craft a message that aligned appropriately with the health and safety as well as the services of our on campus population.
