Personal & Ethical Foundations

Recognize and articulate healthy habits for better living.

While at Florida State I worked hard to better myself in multiple ways and some ways was taking care of my body. I took time to go the gym and even utilized the resources to train with a trainer from the personal training program at Florida State.

Articulate an understanding that wellness is a broad concept comprised of emotional, physical, social, environmental, relational, spiritual, moral, and intellectual elements.

While at Florida State, despite being busy and involved I still made time to embrace my religious identity and participate in the holidays and rituals I hold dear with people whom I care about.

Analyze the impact one’s health and wellness has on others, as well as our collective roles in creating mutual, positive relationships.

During my practicum experience my group worked on a presentation and research project surrounding the six dimensions of wellness and how healthy living within all the dimensions is critical to a students success within their institution. Below you will find the paper which we compiled information regarding wellness effectiveness, techniques, initiatives and programs at Bethune Cookman, Daytona State College, Stetson University, and Embry Riddle University.

Serve as a role model for integrity through sharing personal experiences and nurturing others’ competency in this area.

While at Florida State I had the privilege to present with Matthew Dishman and Taylor Locks on the Moral Development and Advocacy of our Religiously Identifying Students. This was a topic that was near and dear to our hearts because we have all had both positive and negative experiences in regards to our professional practice when working with students that share or do not share a religious identity, as well we had been shaped by personal experience during our undergraduate career. We felt the best way to present our topic was to share our personal stories and help explain the foundation from where we came from in order to inform an audience on critically important topic.

Below you will find a copy of the PowerPoint presented.

Articulate and implement a personal protocol for ethical decision-making.

I blogged this on March 19th 2015...

"Today was full of ups and downs, lots of good and bad but it's always so important to know that the#good will outweigh the bad. Today on my way home from a meeting I found a pair of keys just lying on a table, and of course my first thought was to go hand them into FSUPD so that the owner could find them. What I did not expect was such a warm and heartfelt message from the owner of the keys. #payitforwardbecause one day you will wish someone would have done it for you. All I asked this kind soul to do in return was one day, when she was able and the opportunity presented itself, to return the favor and do a good deed. Imagine if every person just did one#gooddeed for someone else. What an incredibly#passionate #loving and #kind world we would live in. #begood #dogood #goodwillcome"

I make decisions because they are the right tings to do and because my ethical decision-making guides me to make choices tat positively effect others.

Identify the challenges associated with balancing personal and professional responsibilities, and recognize the intersection of one’s personal and professional life.

During my time at Florida State I realized my foundation was my family and my home. My personal life and my home life directly intersected with my happiness and ability to perform my job to the best of my ability, this I was committed to prioritizing my ability to return home and spend time with my family, as often as I could. Despite the financial challenges I was able to go home at least five times a year and rejuvenate myself with the people I hold dear.
